Thanksgiving in Argentina

Thanksgiving in Argentina One of the best Thanksgivings Ive had was actually spent outside the United States, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, three years ago.Our Argentine turkey.Thanksgiving, of course, is a holiday usually only celebrated in the U.S. and Canada, but my wife, two other yanqui friends and I put together a pretty nice Thanksgiving feast for all of our Argentine friends. It wasnt easy to get all the necessary ingredients, especially the most important one, the turkey. But one of our friends from the U.S. knew a butcher who said he could get them delivered from the countryside, and Thanksgiving day another friend from the U.S. stuffed two small turkeys (by U.S. Thanksgiving turkey standards) into a backpack, got on the subway and brought them to our apartment. We had tried to do the traditional Thanksgiving feast at the traditional time, which is around 3 pm, but our Argentine friends nearly revolted, and we ate closer to 10 pm. We had turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes all of our traditional Thanksgi ving foods, as well as fernet and coke, and mate. Despite a small kitchen and a smaller stove, we managed to roast two great turkeys, and more than enough food for everyone that came I think there were 18 in all. Ive never been so proud of my turkey roasting skills. After eating a dinner which I think all of our Argentine friends enjoyed, we talked, played games and music, and had a good time. It was great. Our friends there had shared so much of their culture with us, so it was cool to share a uniquely U.S. and Canadian tradition with them.In some versions of the original story, Thanksgiving was originally a cross-cultural celebration, when European settlers and Native Americans, came together to give thanks for a good harvest season. Of course, the relationship between the Europeans and Native Americans didnt turn out so well and this version of Thanksgiving might not even be accurate, but whatever, those guys were jerks. Argentine Thanksgiving was great.

Get Report Card Ready with these Four Easy Tips Get Report Card Ready with these Four Easy Tips Now that the school year is in full swing, we all know what’s right around the corner. Report cards! For most parents, this will be the first indication of their child’s development at school. Report cards are an important benchmark and measurement of academic performance and will provide you with information regarding your child’s academic development. As such, learning to interpret the information within the report card is key to assessing your child’s progress. Use the report card as a tool to help your child celebrate success and tackle any challenges. Here are a few tips! First, review the report card on your own. When you receive the report card, your first instinct may be to look for areas where your child needs improvement. However, it’s important to process all of the information before discussing the results with your child. When going through the report, start by identifying strengths and areas that have improved. Make a note of these before moving on to weaknesses and subjects that may be slipping. Plan a balanced conversation. Planning in advance your approach to the conversation is essential. Bookending the negative comments with positive ones will result in beginning and ending with good news! Starting with good news will engage children and make them confident enough for the bad news, and ending with good news will leave them feeling empowered instead of defeated.   Meet privately with your child. Sitting down to speak without distractions shows your child that the conversation is important. If you have multiple children, speak to each one individually and avoid interruptions. Be sure to allow enough time to have a relaxed discussion about performance. Children will naturally feel nervous about discussing their report card. Before opening the report, ask your child how he thinks he did. This will indicate how aware he is of his own progress. Ask him what he learned in each subject. Praise, discuss areas of improvement, and strategize. Let your child know how proud you are of the successes in the subjects done well and any improvements that have been made. Praising children for this is just as important as constructive criticism. The areas of improvement must be seen as opportunities for growth, and they assist in your child’s progression to the next level. With ideas in your back pocket, chat with your child about ideas for improvement and strategize different plans together to address the weaknesses. And remember to always end on a positive note about how proud you are. Armed with these tips, you’ll be better able to digest the information offered through the report card and have a productive conversation with your child. Tips For Selecting The Right Tutor For Your FamilyHave you thought about getting your child started in a program of free, individualized tutoring in the Fog City, and taking advantage of the school-age curriculum that they are going to be learning? Many parents want to do just that. One of the main reasons why many parents hire tutors is that they want their children to have the advantages of studying online, while maintaining the personal touch. They want to be able to study the same books, the same professors, with the help of private tutors and home tutors, but also being able to do their homework, read books and keep a diary of their progress. When you are considering an individualized curriculum, what sort of programs or instructors do you think you can find at Fog City? Is it important for you to hire tutors in the Fog City? What are the best qualities of a good tutor? What else do you need to look for when hiring a tutor? Below is a list of tips that will help you choose the ri ght tutors for your family. The first and most important thing to remember when looking for a tutor is that you must choose a tutor who understands what you are looking for and knows how to make the best use of the schools' tutoring services. It is not enough to have someone who offers traditional, age-appropriate, adult-oriented, academic work. These are all great attributes, but if you have little children, they might get confused between the curriculum, and the special attention required by these students. If you have a student who is struggling in an English class and is trying to reach that next grade level, or another for whom you are looking for the next best, you need someone who is going to bring that same attention to your needs.Another consideration when selecting a tutor is that the tutor you hire must be a member of the PTA at the school where you are going to send your child. This means that he or she must be a member and canuse the PTA's funds for tutoring at school. T hese tutors should be willing to discuss how they will handle things such as extracurricular activities, and how they will not provide reports. You can save time and money by choosing tutors in the Fog City, but you need to make sure that you get the very best out of the programs that you select. What are the teaching styles? Are they hands-on in their approach? You also want to make sure that the tutor can meet your specific needs. How long do you want to wait before you actually see results from the tutoring program? What age level do you want them for? Those are the questions you need to ask when choosing a tutor. After all, if you can't find the right tutor to meet your needs, it could cost you money in the long run and delay progress and hinder the educational process.
